I completed a Masters of Science with coursework and research concentrated in economic and urban geography. My thesis topic focused on the merger of Federated and May department stores resulting in the new Macy's organization and its impacts on retail and the urban form.
I work with advisor, Deryck Holdsworth, a historical geographer with an interest in urban business districts, the CBD, and urban morphology. Rounding out my committee are Roger Downs, a cultural geographer with a background in retail geography, and David DiBiase, with a background in cartography and a strong interest in 20th century American history.
In addition to my coursework, research, and teaching assignments, I am the graduate student representative to the department's curriculum committee.
GIS coursework through 2006
I began my formal GIS training via the DU program while still residing in Berlin, Germany. Coursework included: Introduction to GIS, Database Design, Principles of Cartography, GIS in Telecom, and Public Domain Data.
Certificate in Telecom Network Design/Analysis, May 2000
After working as a tech researcher and prior to my stint as a data sales engineer, I completed this certificate which coupled technical coursework with industry perspective.

magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa
Rounding out my coursework in history, were additional courses in political science, economic geography, Spanish, and mass communication. I was a member of the START team, responsible for recruiting top high school scholars to ASU. As a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity, I participated in numerous philathropic activities and held positions of of leadership within my chapter as well as serving as Vice President for Internal Affairs for the Greek system.
